Louisville artist Shayne Hull is best known for his expressive, colorful and sometimes humorous portraits in oil, but this new series of distorted portraits of local and national politicians and celebrities continues his recent fascination with painting in enamel.
"Working with enamel paint is just about as far away from oil as you can imagine. Easel position, preparation, drying time, application, color separation, color mixing... it's an entirely different set of rules.", says Hull.
For this exhibit, Hull has either skewered or glorified (depending on your viewpoint) such figures as Bush, Obama, Hillary, Rice, Fletcher and Northup. And he even threw in a couple portraits of Don Knotts... just because.
The exhibit will run at Swanson Reed Contemporary Gallery, 638 East Market from June 27 through August 4. An opening reception for the public is on Friday, June 27 from 5:00 - 9:00.
